Navy Wins the Challenge Cup!

On 10 June, the WPSNE hosted the 27th Annual All Academy Challenge at Stow Acres Country Club.  A total of 58 graduates of USMA, USNA, USCGA, Norwich and friends enjoyed the camaraderie of the beautiful sunny day.

The competition for the Challenge Cup was close with Navy taking the win.  Bill Burns and Peter Riley from Navy scored 82 points on the Stableford scoring system to take first place.  Murray Welch and Paul Jensen from Army were second with a score of 80.  Kevin Clancy and UYan Katz won the Ken Kronlund Open with a score of 73. The Ken Kronlund Open is named in honor of the late Ken Kronlund, USMA ’52 who founded the All Academy Golf Challenge in 1993.

Peter Riley from the winning Challenge team had the low gross score of 74 to win individual honors.

Contest winners included Murray Welch, Army, who won Closest to the Pin on both #3 and #11.  Well done Murray.

Tom Smith, Army, won Closest to the Pin on #15.

Mary Gallagher won the Women’s Longest Drive and Yan Katz won the Men’s Longest Drive.

The biggest winner of the day was Fisher House Boston, the beneficiary of this year’s outing.  We raised $4,000.00 for Fisher House Boston. The mission of Fisher House Boston is: To ease the burden of our Veterans and their families during difficult times. To serve those who have served. Fisher House Boston’s mission is to be responsive to the needs of our guests and go above and beyond what the VA can provide. We strive to meet the basic comfort needs of our guests, during some of the most difficult times in our guest lives, as well as, enhance the healing and supportive environment of the house.

Our congratulations to the winners.

A special thank you to the Golf Committee.  These individuals made the day a success.

Thank you to all who participated and who helped us support Fisher House Boston.
